His name is Baker Mayfield. Not too expensive and won’t cost a single draft pick.
It’s very unlikely that McVay will be able to draft a better QB to develop.
Disagree on Mayfield. He is a solid backup but not a franchise QB. Not even close. He proved this everywhere he was including with us.

1. Mayfield never had a training camp and never had played with any Rams players when he came in late in season.
2. What he did vs Raiders after 2 days was amazing. Honestly, how many QB’s could do that?
3. Mayfield was playing behind a makeshift OL (to be charitable) and lacking Rams top 2 WR’s. Yet he won 2 of 5 games. Would have been 3 wins but for the refs screwing Rams in that Seahawk game.
4. Mayfield’s struggles in the past came while playing on dysfunctional Browns team and a very brief stint on questionable Panthers team. IOW, he’s never had a HC like McVay to develop him and surround him with weapons.
5. Tanking for a franchise QB in ‘24 at #1 overall is a pipe dream. At worst I think Rams win 8-9 games in ‘23. The cost to trade up in ‘24 would be prohibitive, even for Snead.
6. Mayfield has likely got a higher ceiling (and will reach it sooner) than any QB I can see on the FA horizon or in the ‘24 draft that would be there for the Rams.
I think Rams need to strongly consider Mayfield in their long term plans. At least until he proves himself one way or the other.
