To me running 12 personnel- or two TEs- creates the biggest run or pass guessing game for defenses. Especially if you can split one of them out into the slot. But you also have to have two TEs that can legitimately block.
Edge and OL remain the Rams' top two needs. But this is a case where value could be really good and adding talent there would make great sense both short and long term.
I am not a believer in Hopkins and Higbee could be gone in 2024. I like Higbee, now the Rams all-time leading receiver at TE, and having just turned 30 he can still play well. I'd be all for extending him another year to lower his 2023 cap. But they need someone else added to that position.
Nobody is a bigger proponent of 12 personnel than yours truly. It’s practically mandatory given the D’s that are smothering 11 personnel that Ram opponents are currently running.
But I would like to put in an encouraging word about Hopkins. I’ve noticed him while re-watching games and I think he can be effective if used. Especially with better TE coaching this year. I still want a stud TE drafted early from this class but let’s don’t go to sleep on Hopkins.
