And here's where the weakness in the actual writing emerges. He wrote...

The wording suggests that he rushed for 2,444 and 28 TDS in each of his last two seasons. He needs the word "combined" for it to make sense. It's not like he doesn't know the word "combined" as he correctly uses it in the very next sentence describing other stats in the same two year time period.
