Been thinking about this a lot especially while reporting that Rams story last few months…the contracts they did after the SB indicated they thought they could push model at least another year. You saw that even into the year w some of the trades they tried + were priced out or

declined. The players they went after weren’t “Von Miller”-esque in the sense of one missing piece, but more so players who could be a bridge in a sense; Burns, McCaffrey and looking into Chubb. So players who they felt could help them *that year* and then help keep some phases

competitive when others ultimately were overhauled, pass-rusher specifically being one to build a defense back around post-window, quickens the process when you have that guy already. Or a top CB, etc., this was method behind Ramsey trade in 2019. Then as things kept going SO

wrong in 22 and they realized they couldn’t compete in their old market w fewer resources, those new contracts felt like a weight instead of a stable core.
What my instinct says *so far* is that they are looking at a fix-on-the-fly attempt, which also makes some sense in light

of the McVay situation and also in how some of these current/impending moves affect 2024. I don’t know what the right “re”-word that is for those who have asked, it just feels like they had already showed hints of what might be next earlier this year. Hindsight says now to have

done it sooner; they knew “nobody repeats” but still did the deals instead of blowing it up bc there were those in the building, including McVay, who believed at minimum they would still be a playoff team had not all the circumstantial injury stuff happened. Just some thoughts.

Also I don’t think it fully hit them how the life cycle of their model had ended for them, yet not for the rest of the NFL engaging in inflated picks-for-players trades, until that McCaffrey situation. And still there was a divide over trying to do that deal or pivot model then.

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
