Agreed. Not that you can get away with garbage in the secondary by any means. But defenses are mostly built front to back I think.
And as good as Wagner and Ramsey were overall in 2022 the defense simply could not function really well without any sort of pass rush. Heck, Ramsey himself was used as a pass rusher eventually.
I think back to the Rams defensive overhaul from 2000 to 2001. Now that 2000 defense was bad. 2022 was not. But just saying that defense was overhauled with 8 new starters- everyone except Wistrom, Fletcher and McCleon- and ended up 6th in the league a year later.
I dont think the Rams are tearing the defense down. Theyre redesigning it.
