The best teams have top players in multiple positions. The Chiefs won with the best QB and TE. The Rams won the year before with one of the best QBs, the best WR, CB, edge and best DT. Last season, we added Wags who was the best MLB. But, we lost our QB, WR, DT and edge. Our CB was playing another position in a bad scheme. Now, our QB, WR, DT will be back. We're cutting the MLB and probably trading the CB. At which positions will we still be best?
Kupp? AD? Right now, that's it. Stafford is coming off scary injuries. Our lines are both lean and our skill people won't scare anyone.
Akers? At best, he's average. Robinson? Everyone wants to trade him away. Higbee? Decent, but not a Kelce or the kid on the Niners who constantly kills us. He's not even a Hurst.
Who else could be the best at his position? Nobody. The Rams lack talent. Whit retired. Miller left. OBJ got hurt. Woods we traded. Wagner were cutting. JR, we're trading. Floyd may be gone. Gay is a FA and probably gone. Maybe Stafford has another good year? Maybe. GG and big ARob are FAs. So, who is left? Kupp and AD. Not enough to compete with the big boys. They will double and triple team both these guys. They will both make plays anyway, but how do we beat the Niners, the Eagles, Bills, Bengals or Chiefs with these guys plus a bunch of rookies? Let's say we mail our first three picks and the kids all start.
That would be great, but will they replace All Pro/HOF vets? I am usually an optimist. I really liked our chances to run the table last season.
But, right now, it looks like 2-15. Might be bad enough to get Caleb. And it looks like we'll need him.
