3030
There may be a silver lining to this.
I think it's fair to say that Morris's first year was a bit of a learning experience. He'd never coached or played the Fangio defense before. Conveniently enough we won a championship that year.
So what do you do year two? The same thing you did that won a championship the year before. Why change? Except this time there was no Von Miler or Darius Williams and the offense was giving no help.
In year three I would expect Morris is now more comfortable with the defense and wil be able to insert the tweaks, nuances and changes of pace necessary to confuse opposing offenses. Hopefully we can get him the players to do just that.
And for the record, I'm not a Morris hater, but I do think i'm not a fan of the Fangio defense as a whole. Give me a 4-3 with a Jeff Fisher defensive line any day.
Same here 3030. Not Morris "hater" but I am a "Ultra Soft Zone" hater. Maybe another year with the system and an additional player or two will help Morris be able to try new things and allow him to break away from using that ultra soft zone so much.
I am a 4-3 "lover" and prefer a more aggressive defense even if it means giving up a big play or two. If you are successful enough with the pressure scheme, maybe the D can make a "big play" or two so it would balance out.
What's that old saying? "No risk it...no biscuit!"
It can be done. You can win using a pressure scheme. It has been working for Spags for a long time now and he has 3 rings (2 in the last 4 years) to prove it can still be used in today's pass happy NFL.
I just am not sure we currently have the players to run it correctly.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
