An analysis showed that without a doubt, the deflated footballs used had little to no impact on Brady throwing the ball. The real measure was the ability of the running backs to avoid fumbling. During that time the Patriots had no great RB's yet their lack of fumbling numbers year to year were staggering by comparison to the rest of the league. Placing it solely on Brady seemed unfair since the numbers made it appear that it was Belichick's baby, not Tom's. A softer ball is easier to hold and catch but not necessarily throw.

This was it, the misdirection by Belichick. The oddsmaker did the math and showed through data that right on the heals of the exposure of Spygate, the Deflategate program commenced: the Cheatriots went from average fumbles to fumbling—like never—from 2006 to 2014.

So, the data was there. The testing of the ball pressure was there and the Cheatriots gave up the goods since they’re criminal and got caught in the act of criminality.

But the sports media and the league came to the defense. In characteristic fashion they allowed the criminal mastermind, Belicheat, distract everybody with, “Look! A squirrel!!” routine by mumbling, “Anything Tom (Brady) is doing with the balls and ball pressure is something you’d have to ask him about.”

And from there, the case to expose Cheatriots being the cheaters they are had no chance.
