Have we actually had an medical updates on Noteboom's Achilles, AJ's blood clots, Edwards concussions, Allen's leg, Bruss' ACL?
Sure if everyone comes back good as new and Edwards re-signs and they gel with Havs, we have the makings of a string OL without adding any new players in FA or the draft. Lots of ifs.
The big if and a potential huge problem is at LT. If Boom's Achilles won't let him play well we need to have AJ play there. And we don't know if AJ will be able to play at all. But, no Boom and a yes on AJ puts AJ at LT. Edwards is a FA and comes off of double concussions. Probably gone. Does Shelton or Ancrum play LG? Neither really has played there and both have had injuries. Bruss also could play there but is actually a RT who they were hoping could move to RG. Allen, when he is healthy is pretty solid in the middle. But, he was having his knee drained for every game. How is he doing? Shelton played better at center but if he's there who plays RG? Corbett is sorely missed despite throwing a ton of names there. Havs had a solid season and was healthy for all of it. Hopefully that happens again. So, we have everyone come back healthy and we could look good, nobody on the left side could return and we'd still be in big trouble, or some could work out and leave others open. We don't know. There was one little tweet that Krupp's rehab is doing great, but we haven't gotten a whisper of news on Our OL rehab progress. We don't have enough news to venture a guess. It's frustrating. Why have articles on who we might pick at 36 when we don't have any clue as who might be on the depth chart before the draft?
Thank you for the post and it does have interesting takes. It all starts with Noteboom. The hope and expectation was that he would pick up at LT for Big Whit without losing a step.
That could still happen or the exact opposite is just as possible in that his Achilles has ended his career and it wasn't announced. Nobody here knows. There was a blurb from AJ on what he thinks their line will look like and he has Boom at LT and himself at LG. That would look good. Can he play with the blood clots? If both are so, the left side looks very solid. That leaves Allen/Shelton at center and Shelton/Bruss/Ancrum/Brewer/Skura at RG.
I like Shelton at center and Ancrum at RG myself. Allen could backup C, Bruss backs up RG and RT. That could be a solid starting 5 and even a couple spots of decent depth. It's time for a reporter to do an interview with the medical staff and to hunt down our rehabbing players to give us updates. That's the news I want. After that, we'll see us do money moves to create cap space and we'll see signings to close major holes. Then, and only then, should there be speculation on who we will pick in the second round in April.
