Must have tremendous authority on O matters during game and game planning. McVay must really give him the reins. It’s necessary for McVay’s ‘therapy’.
Must be play caller, of course.
Must believe in strong running game, not just a passing game wizard.
Must have a big say in choices of O assistants QB, RB, OL, WR, and TE. And the gravitas required to make them listen. Can McVay relinquish that much control? I have my doubts.
I think the above requires a man of experience. Newbies or ‘friends’ just won’t do. Frank Reich sounds perfect.
