Don't forget that Thomas Brown hired Rashaad Samples, who did not deliver. And that Akers' resurgence came after reassigning Brown back to the RBs. Make me wonder if McVay picked up the slack (coaching TEs after Brown went back to RBs?).
I recall McVay giving O'Connell a high five last year after a TD and saying "Great Call" so KOD was definitely making some of the calls then.
But many of these coaching decisions happened because the Rams went to the SB. A shortened offseason hurts when you lose coaches like KOD, Wes Philipps and Evero. Not sure how the changes for Chris Shula (defensive pass game coordinator) and Zac Robinson (QBs / pass game coordinator) worked out.
