I suspect that I know what McVay’s single biggest challenge was in ‘22…

Yeah, he had many challenges, but I think the one that most stressed him was the lack of his usual quality asst coaches up and down the line.

I further suspect that McVay tried to compensate by doing more and more himself until he just couldn’t spread himself any thinner. THAT was the back breaker, imo.

If he stays, he’d better think very hard about each and every assistant that he retains and/or brings in. No more changing position assignments for coaches just to better prep them for future promotions.

I think poor results occurred at these position groups this year:

DC (entirely too much soft zone relative to the rest of the league and too many questionable personnel starting decisions)
OC (no explanation necessary)
RB
TE
WR (the Atwell and Allen Robinson handling)
Edge
CB
S

I’m gonna give Carberry a pass because of the avalanche of injuries although I’ll never understand why he kept starting Evans after both Aboushi and Skura were integrated.

Honestly, I think a lot of assistant coaches let McVay down this year. And it damned near gave him a mental breakdown.
