You, ZN, have decided that for the common good all should comply with what you deem good. This you call common sense, meaning that those who do otherwise aren't exercising any. But of course, if anyone disagrees with you (many millions do) then your remedy is to force them or shame them.
Show me one shred of scientific evidence that non-N95 masks do anything at all. Or that other in a medical environment, even N-95 masks accomplish much. Not anecdotal; not what CNN or MSNBC says, but actual scientific evidence.
But even if evidence did exist, this is still America. We have hard won freedoms that ought to give adults the right to choose. For those who are too wary to venture out unless all are forced to comply with their rules...... stay home. I say the same for going to sporting events.
Sure; there are those in our society who have serious underlying health issues (which the data shows are the ones who are the truly vulnerable). And they should stay home for their own sake. But that is STILL their choice. And of course, if someone is actually symptomatic, that is another issue. But you want every last person to wear a mask, because you think it's better for us all. I don't. And I shall continue to not wear a mask unless a business I might like to walk into says they don't want people without masks to come in. It's their business and if that's what they decide, and they want to turn away some customers, that is entirely their free choice. Others that don't require masks should also be given the same dignity and respect.
I don't expect you to change your position. You and I represent the 2 opposing views on this matter that will be debated for months, if not years, to come. But I'm placing my bet right now that 2 or 3 years from now, many books are going to be written about the violently repressive and overboard response to this illness, how unconstitutional much of it is, how unnecessary it is for people to be so filled with fear by our government and media and a couple of puffed up TV doctors, and how sad it is that millions and millions of people lost their jobs, businesses, homes, schooling, and more and how sports that mean so much to Americans was halted because of a zombie like over reaction that was worse than the illness itself.
People making these decisions, and those who accept them without pause, have been watching too many Hollywood disaster movies. Yet, that is their right and freedom to do. Just as mine is to be skeptical and smell a skunk when I do.
