Today all non essential services in our province (Ontario) were ordered to close as of tomorrow. As one would expect Toronto and southern Ontario, where the bigger cities are located, are getting hit the hardest. Up here in isolated Northern Ontario our cases are currently lower, but that will change as all of the snowbirds and other vacationers have been returning home from the US and abroad during the last week. I hope that this total shutdown helps. Too many people still are not taking this seriously. I see people from multiple families out walking in packs almost daily. It’s frustrating.
I’ve learned a little bit about myself during the early stages of this crisis. Mainly, I am not as stoic as I once thought. Every trip to buy groceries fills me with anxiety unlike anything that I’ve ever felt before. I am so grateful to cashiers and the people stocking shelves that I have a hard time not tearing up when I thank them for being there. I’ve been waving at truckers and giving them the thumbs up whenever I can get their attention. This sudden feeling of vulnerability is overwhelming for me. If I survive this I’m going to look like I’m a 150 years old when it’s all done.
