most of them... make that ALL of them, were Italian and Portuguese. No hardtack, prosciutto instead. No beer or whisky but rather wine in a bota bag... (well, maybe a little whiskey).
No cowboy hats... fedora's... sweat stained.
I don't recall any 'beef cattle' ranches nearby... within 5 miles that is.... but every family here had at least a couple dairy cows. Speaking of:
The day the homestead came down... my oldest grandson up where the DeLaval Milking Machine had been - we removed to save as a keepsake. As a kid I used to climb up there, (it was already long out of use), and pretend it was my rocket ship... Mason was the last one of there)
