Greatest SBD Dauntless pilot of all time and maybe the greatest fighter pilot of all time.
If I hadn't seen his story on an episode of "Dogfights" I wouldn't have believed it. He was in a dogfight with THREE Mitsubishi A6M Zero vs. his SBD Dauntless and he took out all three!!! After this unbelievable achievement he was moved to a fighter squadron where on one of his first missions he shot down 7 planes. After that they made him an flight instructor.

For those of you that don't know anything about WW2 fighter planes, taking out 3 zeros with a SBD is like wining a race in a pickup truck vs. 3 Ferraris. Its not possible, but he did it anyway.
