the only one I've seen is the original TV series with Duvall and Jones. It's probably my favorite all time movie. Hence... I have been reluctant to watch the other fearing that it they won't do justice to the original series based on the novel.
I know, that's probably foolish of me. - JamesJM
Not really. Once you've viewed excellence, nothing else compares.
The 5 miniseries were produced and broadcast over 19 years (the first one in 1989 and the last one in 2008). There is so much history and so many good story lines in these series that I want to watch them in historical order so that maybe some things make better sense to me. The other 4 miniseries are pretty good, but Lonesome Dove was EXCELLENT and in a class by itself. IMDB rates it 8.7. Anything rated above 8.0 is usually quality stuff.
1- Dead Man's Walk (aired in 1996) - takes place in early 1840's
2 - Comanche Moon (aired in 2008) - takes place in 1850-1860's
3 - Lonesome Dove (aired in 1989) - takes place in mid-to-late 1870's
4 - Return to Lonesome Dove (aired in 1993) - takes place in mid-to-late 1880's
5 - Streets of Laredo (aired in 1995) - takes place in early 1890's
So, one of these days I'm going to start watching them again in the historical order listed and see if it sheds some new light on what I've already seen. I don't think I've seen them all yet anyway and it's been so long since I've seen Lonesome Dove that watching it again will be refreshing, but this time it'll be 3rd on my list.
