90% hip replacements are a result of arthritis in the joints making daily life chores miserable. The surgery is relatively simple compared to knee replacements. Knee replacements deal with many, many articulating joints and require screws and wires, etc. The recovery period is far more extensive. Today one goes in for a hip replacement early in the morning and is out ambulating in the afternoon or the next day. My first one was 12 years ago at USC and was in the hospital for a week recovering. 4 yrs ago I had the other hip replaced. Surgery was different as instead of cutting through the muscles they now separate the muscles. Surgery was in the morning and the next morning I walked out of the surgery center and went home.
