until this tournament I had never heard of them. I looked them up and it's west of Downtown Bakersfield... kind of by Hwy 58. Edge of town, the western edge.
Lot of new schools these days that I've never heard of. Sierra Pacific, for example. Their girls team was playing when we entered the arena to watch our boys... and all of us were questioning each other, "Where is Sierra Pacific".
Yeah, the Championship was outstanding... first one I've seen 'locally' since my oldest grandson first started playing sports some 12 years ago... and during those 12 years I've followed MANY teams. Not just those my grandson(s) played on. I've seen a few "Tournament" Championships but nothing this big.
Might be VERY good news on the horizon... we losing only one 'great' player from this Year's Varsity squad. They 'may' be stronger next year.
When I coached HS Football we traveledto Garces a few times, so yes... I remember Garces playing the smaller towns. Amazing progress they've made. - JamesJM
