When you say 'environment'. I've noticed that here, and other high schools as well, perhaps most... they pull whomever they are truly 'grooming' off the JV squads their sophomore years to get them in with Varsity players early.
I haven't the knowledge of today's game to really say 'right' or 'wrong'... my instincts are that it's not that good of an idea but I may be very wrong. Getting them into the 'big' game early might have rewards.
In our Division, not sure about the others, JV's have no playoffs, or championship... they simply play games. Of course fans and parents keep track of the records but there is no formal recognition of champions. JV's, in our division, truly are a feeder system for the Varsity. - JamesJM
