Last week my 2nd oldest grandson hit his 3rd triple of the year.... the first two came in the same game.
Very unusual, I thought. Triples are not common - with or without a fence. All three of my grandson's triples came without a fence, making it easier... but still uncommon.
Well, that got me to thinking... Major Leagues... who, I wondered, had the record for the most triples in a season? A NON-baseball expert I had no idea who.. nor 'how many' it might be... so I took a guess... mentally noting my guess then googling it.
I was aghast... the record is 36. My guess wasn't even CLOSE. I was thinking maybe a dozen. Then the 'who' and 'when' of the leaders caught my eye. I didn't recognize ANY of the names. The record was set in the year 1912!
And of the top 4 the 1912 record was the LATEST. Read the attached photo.
So for you avid viewers of MLB how often would you say you see a triple? And let's make that a STAND UP TRIPLE? I can't recall the last one I saw. - JamesJM
