Rabbit ears antenna. I don't remember the model, brand that is, but I can picture it in my mind. Rectangle... wide, not that tall, perhaps an inch thick... or a bit more.
That radio was, I'm sure of it, my best friend... for a long while.. and accompanied me, led me if you will, from childhood into adolescence.
Now that I think about it.... and don't hold me to this.... I think it was the first 'adult' gift I received in life. We were, and I hate to sound cliche, not very wealthy, my family that is, but we didn't know it. A transistor radio was, for us, an extravagant gift... and it didn't come on a 'special' day.. I believe I got it not for a birthday, or a graduation, but my parents simply came home with it out of the blue sometime during, perhaps, my 6th grade year? Perhaps 7th.
I had it into my college years... and sometime in the late 60's I stored it away. I came across it a couple of times after that... not searching for it but rather just stumbling upon it while rummaging. It is possible that it still exists; though it would take a scientific expedition with state of the art technology to locate it today. - JamesJM
