It is possible...

that Cream was the first major concert, on my own, that I ever saw.

As you know... I'm a drummer. Let me rephrase that... I play AT the drums. So needless to say Ginger Baker was one, if not first, hero as far as being a musician... not just or only a vocalist.

Here's an odd thing... or is to me anyway... At that time, when I saw Cream, I was convinced that Ginger Baker was the greatest drummer in the world. As time wore on, and learned to play drums, then learned and studied many other drummers.. I came to think that Ginger was actually not that good at all. I held that belief for a long time.

But then.. what goes around comes around. Perhaps late 80's, 90's maybe... I went back and listened to Ginger. LP's. My second impression had been wrong... Ginger was actually an excellent drummer, and way ahead of his time.

Today there is YouTube... and there is no question about it... Ginger is in the drumming HOF. - JamesJM
