My feel good story for the year..

March 02, 2017 07:57AM
Ok, here's my feel good story for the year.. As some of you know, we just adopted a little Beagle named Gypsie.. What you may not know is the circumstances that led up to us adopting Gypsie.. As you know, we lost our little Beagle Lucie on December 12 last year (and almost lost our other Beagle Torrie two days later) and were both just crushed.. That same week, a photo of Gypsie came across my Facebook page, telling her story.. I thought that physically she reminded me of Lucie, and Lucie, who was a shelter rescue, had been given the temporary shelter name of... Gypsy (we changed the spelling to keep it similar to Torrie and Lucie).. So, I kind of viewed that as fate that she came across my Facebook page..

So, the reason Gypsie came across my Facebook page was because of her story.. She had been paralyzed in an accident in South Carolina - she could not walk and was incontinent, where an incredible organization called Noah's Arks Rescue took her in and provided the necessary back surgery (and an additional hernia surgery) and amazing care and therapy in the hopes that Gypsie would be able to walk again.. Unfortunately, she was also diagnosed with heart worms, so little Gypsie had a pretty tough life..

At that point we put in an application to adopt Gypsie, not knowing if she would ever be able to walk.. We were prepared for her to be in a cart her whole life and were making plans to adapt the house for a dog in a cart.. We were fortunate enough to be approved to adopt Gypsie, so we set about making plans to pick her up.. At that point we found out the surgery was a success and she was able to walk and was no longer incontinent..

So, Thursday February 16, we flew to Atlanta Georgia and met a representative of Noah's Arks, Dan Longer, who had driven Gypsie 250 miles, or so, from South Carolina to Atlanta.. We picked her up, hung out with her for several hours at the airport waiting for our return flight (that was delayed almost two hours), and flew back to Dallas, then drove home to Wichita Falls.. That was a LONG day of travel and little Gypsie was worn out, but she was a TERRIFIC traveler..

Its a little miracle that Gypsie can walk again, and we wanted to do our part to help her and give her a spoiled life.. She has come so far and can now walk, run, and play.. She has been an absolute joy and we look forward to taking care of her forever and spoiling her completely rotten..She has been with us two weeks, as of today, and we just love her to death.. She's TINY for a Beagle - 14 pounds - and full of life and energy.. We have started her on her heart worm treatment protocol and she will go to the vet in 2.5 weeks for 4 days to get the serious heart worm treatment.. We will miss her greatly for 4 days!

No matter what we do for her, tho, we know that we will get more out of this experience than she will..

First pic is Gypsie with us during her first car ride - with Torrie.. The rest are pics of her at the shelter right after her surgery while she was still paralyzed...

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
