They couldn't hire him--it would not be an upward move, McDaniel is the 9ers "run game coordinator" which is a step above an RB coach, which in turn is a step above an assistant RB coach or offensive assistant. So not only would the 9ers not give permission, McDaniel would not be interested because it would be a step down.

They actually could hire him as I believe his contract expires...But one would surmise McDaniel would stay put with that tag.
