Is that the Rams have struggled for about 15 years to sign and develop OL... The Rams had a starter quality OL in Brown and they let him go? I realize that there might be some riches at the OL positions but its still a tough pill to swallow given the history... and the woeful offensive production that was precipitated by a consistently poor OL year after year. And this was usually despite hopes that the Rams had figured it out with draft picks and FA acquisitions... and every year due to injuries, lack of depth and lack of talent continued to trot out an OL incapable of protecting the QB.
Goff really needs, and usually has gotten, quite a bit of time in the pocket to be successful. Some of that he buys himself but a lot of it is an improved OL. So we ALL know what happens when the OL is subpar... the Rams struggle...
So some of us aren't up to speed with the whole "we have this rookie who is better than our proven starter" bit. I'm definitely not saying that's not the case and Noteboom may be better but some fans here, or me anyway, have learned through the 15 years of ugliness to value OL... even merely capable ones like Brown.
Nonetheless, I do see where his FA status and likely increased salary, suspension and overall talent at the OL positions have likely made him expendable... still a bit of a "wow" for me.
