My take is Goff is playing to his comfort zone (and to a degree McVay may still be coaching him in that direction). Where Goff earns his big-time Second Contract money is going to come when he steps out of that Infantile Comfort Zone, delivers passes accurately (because he does have the arm and I believe the accuracy) where instead of being an average to ordinary QB, he becomes something more like ARogers (which he can be passing wise/maybe not legs wise). The question is: when and how long will that take!?
I don't think we have seen what developmentally, Goff is truly capable of yet. If we go by yesterday and unmeasured expectations, we will see Goff as so much less than so many other QB's including rookies. But if this guy is guided and nurtured right, we will get the draft pick performances we expected when we did draft him. Lucky for us, we got the other piece of the equation, McVay. So if Goff doesn't let things go to his head and listens and receives the guidance and coaching he needs, he will come out looking like an All-Pro. If his ego blows in or fear creeps in, they could abort things.
Personally, I see a calculated and measured program for Goff that's geared for the making some immediate gains in the here and now (Super Bowl presence) but for the crafting of even greater developmental gains, meaning a QB dynasty stretch.
