First of all: we don't know who was involved in contributing to the rule. I'm sure it was done with input from qualified people in the neurological disease field. Those people know far more about injuries to the spinal cord, etc and their causes a lot more than anyone who simply "played the game".
Second: You argue that it's "virtually impossible" not to lead with the helmet. Sorry-my own eyes tell me that in the Oakland game there were many more "legal" tackles than otherwise.
Third: I'm not in the debate as to what calls were appropriate last night. It's just as likely the refs need some experience and more training in these calls as well.
Finally, what your saying is : I don't care if it saves the life impairment of one or more players if its too hard to call and it will ruin the game. Correct ? If so-I can't join with you on that. There are things far more important than the game of football.
Also: Assume you are right and it will be so impossible to enforce and thus in your view impact negatively on the game (all of which I doubt) BUT it would save the life impairments to many players-what would your honest opinion at that point be ? i.e. would you still watch the Rams against the Patriots is they still made it to the SB once again?
