And, I don't think you understand what tagging him two years means. Go ahead....tag him. You will likely start losing players like Gurley, Peters, Joyner, Cooks...and...put Donald in a hate situation...negative mood. That isn't good for the team.
The best strategy is for the Rams to lock him up long term now. Then they can be in better position to keep these other top players.
There are many of you that are more worried about the cap than actually building a long term Super Bowl contender.
