It isn't an absolute, but it is a fact that the teams that played to win did better than the teams that did not overall that last week.
The Steelers and Rams and Chiefs were the worst playoff teams this year and the biggest violators of tanking the last game.
Other teams like the Patriots, Jags, Vikings, Falcons, Saints, Tennessee. did much better and were in similar situations that last week, but played to win.
]
Lets break it down
1) Chiefs vs Titans
Titans played to win in last week and Chiefs did not. Titans win
2) Rams vs Falcons
Falcons played to win in last week and Rams did not. Falcons win.
3) Saints vs Panthers
Both played to win in last week. Saints win
4) Jags vs Bills
Both played to win in last week and Jags win.
1) Steelers vs Jags
Jags played to win in last week and Steelers did not. Jags win
2) Patriots vs Titans
Patriots played to win and so did the Titans. Patriots win
3) Eagles vs Falcons
The only exception to the rule. Eagles did not play to win, but still won, but that had the Matt Ryan factor involved where he never delivers in the 2nd half of a big game.
4) Vikings vs Saints
Both played to win that last week and it was a great game won by the Vikings.
When you add it up,
Here are the Playoff teams:
1) Patriots
2) Steelers
3) Chiefs
4) Jags
5) Titans
6) Bills
Look at this. Only 2 of those 6 teams tanks the last game and they both lost (Steelers and Chiefs)
The other 4 teams that did not tank, Jags, Patriots, Titans, and Bills all won except for the Bills.
On the NFC
1) Vikings
2) Eagles
3) Rams
4) Saints
5) Falcons
6) Panthers
1) 2 of the 6 teams tanked the last game and the Rams had the big loss.
2) 4 of the 6 teams that played to win and 3 of the 4 won a game.
