L.A.Rams
During 50 years of following the Rams, I have had a pretty good track record of objectively evaluating QBs on the basis of their performance on the field, which is of course all that a fan has to go by. I have now seen enough of Goff. He can't play. It's hard to imagine how he managed to fool so many experts when he was highly regarded as an NFL prospect.
I wish I could say that I felt differently but it's hard to feel too good after such an abbreviated, bad day. Young QB's are going to struggle and I think I understand that. But, if that's the case, why did Goff not get more work this offseason? Or last offseason? Something is very strange in that regard.
What I'm hanging my hat on right now is that it is still early. Too early to tell for sure. Brees, Eli, etc. all took a couple of years to get up to speed so it's still possible that Goff might do the same. I don't really feel like that's his trajectory right now but it's still possible. The flip side to that argument though is that young QB's are more frequently hitting the ground running. Winston, Mariota and even Wentz have all "looked" the part already and it makes it difficult to feel good about Goff, who has not.
