When I was a relatively newly married (2 yrs.) young man we had just bought a house in Van Nuys and it needed a short walkway section installed next to the driveway. I needed to lay flagstone in the area. I wound up finding the best deal on flagstone at a lumber yard in Granada Hills. After choosing the stone, the cashier called over this big blonde kid to load it into my vehicle.
After he loaded it up and proceeded to walk away, the guy who was parked next to me said "you know who just loaded up your wagon don't you? That's John Elway! He's going to Stanford!" I knew then who he was talking about. In L.A. it was big news at the time.
