Yeah, but who do we have on our team that is worth big bucks now?
Quinn? Nope. Hasn't produced in 2 years.
Austin? Overpaid.
Goff? Maybe in a few years...
Tru? Overpaid
Brockers? He's one of the 8-10 players and already has a contract.
Ogletree? He'll probably be resigned and be one of the 8-10 highly paid players.
Joyner? Maybe. How will he do at FS and is FS a position that warrants a high salary?
Whitworth? He's one of the 8-10 players but that's definitely a short term thing
Barwin? Same as Whitworth...
Go down the list on our team. We don't have many players right now that are truly worth paying high salaries. So finding the balance should be easy.
Let's say in 2020, when/if they extend Goff, the cap will be around 200 M. 50% of that obviously is 100 M. Let's say 45 M of that goes to AD and JG. The only other guys under contract through 2020 are Barron, Austin, and Woods, and together they represent around 24-25 M. So that (at this point) is around 70 M tied up in 5 guys. That;s assuming they keep all 3 of that group (Barron, Austin, Woods)., That would presumably leave around 30 M to tie up 3-5 more guys, more likely 3-4. Any first round picks from 2018-2020 will be on 5 year deals (if they're good) so the first one of those does not come up until 2022.
