Who cares what the knuckleheads before him did - the stache had 5 years and couldn't get it done. #OffensiveFailure
Fisher focused more on his defensive personnel when he arrived to St. Louis. There were many holes, and he is a heavily defensive minded coach, so it came as no surprise he went the route he did. I despised the hire from the start from an offensive standpoint and knew it would fail. He has a poor eye for offensive talent, is far too conservative on the offensive side of the ball hoping to win 13-10 type games, and hired a conservative OC who he provided little to work with. It was all a recipe for disaster in a high scoring, QB driven modern day NFL. Fisher never evolved and wanted to continue playing, "Buddy Ball" in this modern day era. FAIL
I will never make the OL injury excuses for Fisher like one poster here seems to do a daily basis here (even though 99% of this board disagrees with him, lol).
Fisher failed the complete Rams offense 100% from the OL, to the QB position, to WR position, to his offensive coaching staff, etc. etc. It was MUCH more than just injuries. MUCH MORE! He has a terrible feel for offensive personnel and made what PROVED to be too many poor offensive free agent signings and offensive draft picks. Stayed married to Bradford way too long! even after a season ending ACL. He then had the luxury of 2 high1st round draft picks in the draft following Bradord`s injury. He even had a trade in place for a 3rd 1st round pick in that draft and still had no interest in a QB. I`m sorry, how could I forget he did draft a QB in that 2014 draft, Garrett Gilbert (round 6, pick 214)
Regarding the original topic of this thread, I think its far too premature to judge what McVay has done with this OL so far. Also, there is no question Snead and Demoff were highly prioritizing this Rams OL well before they hired McVay. After watching Fisher failing the OL for the better part of the last 5 seasons, coupled with the HUGE investment they made acquiring Jared Goff, its very obvious the OL needed to become a priority first and foremost.
In reality, the FA OL moves so far with Whitworth and Sullivan are more or less stop gap signings. The Whitworth signing looks great on paper, lets just hope at 35 years of age he still has enough juice in him and can stay healthy for a good two seasons until they find (most likely draft one fairly high in the next couple years) his replacement. If he were to go down for any extended period of time with Goff still at a fragile undeveloped state, it could prove to be disastrous. The Center they signed John Sullivan (one year deal) was more or less a, "there isn't much out there and we missed on our target, so we have to settle for a vet like Sullivan". We don't even know if Sullivan can step in week 1 and play at a productive level. If not him, then who? I don't think the current talent is all that great on the Rams OL. Regarding the new OL coach, Kromer, he hasn't proven anything yet, and I still remember how excited people once were over Boudreau. Let`s wait, watch and see. IMO the Rams are going through a rebuild on the OL. My bit of advice is to understand this and be very patient with this offense. I think McVay may need 2-3 years to really get the offense rolling. And if Goff doesn't pan out, that's a whole other story. Its a tall order for McVay and part of me feels sorry for him because being an offensive minded coach, he will be made the scapegoat if the offense is struggling. Fisher had essentially 8, 1st round draft picks over 5 years and left the offensive in shambles for McVay, who doesn't even have a 1st round draft pick in his first season. Good luck Sean, you are an easy guy to like and I`m rooting for you!
