When was the last time any team got a lot in year 1 out of 2 4th round rookies?
I mean, if it EVER happened.
And for that matter, forget about year 1. When was the last time any team scored with 2 4th round picks in the same draft?
Let;s just look at the Rams. Have they ever scored on 2 4th round picks in the same draft (let alone as rookies). I looked back to 1960. From 1960-2015, the Rams have had 56 4th round picks. I would count 8 of those as hits (Cowan, Zook, Tucker, Perry, Hakim, Newsome, Reed, Ferragamo). There is no case that I saw where 2 hits come from the same year.
So let's say that Higbee and Cooper will both come through, though probably not as rookies. BUT If they both come through and regularly make the final cut and contribute, it would be an unprecedented thing in Rams draft history.
So to me?
Worrying about whether they will produce as rookies is kind of premature. Rams historical hit percentage on 4th round picks, and I mean just one at a time and not 2 a year, is 14.2%.
So if someone said to me, it';s halfway through the season and the Rams 2 4th round picks haven't done much, I would just say "duh." Asking 2 4th round picks to BOTH produce as rookies is just way too high a standard. Asking ONE to produce defies the percentages.
And you know what? So far, I think each can be productive and keep making the team and contributing. That right there alone would be unique in Rams draft history. Or at least in the history I saw going back to 1960. That would be quite something
