it wasn't 3 out of a unit but lets say for the conversation: your best WR, your LT, your best RB and your starting QB?
Or since they play different positions it wouldn't be a reason for a down performance?
Well what I said wasn't exclusive. It's what applies to the Rams situation. In a similar discussion I put it differently:

I always respond to the "well good teams deal with injuries" thing by pointing out that no, there is such a thing as key injuries, and there is such a thing as multiple injuries to the same unit depleting that unit.
I suppose what you describe is what I call there key injuries. But in the example you give it might depend. I would not be so certain that would cause havoc. It would depend on the team, the players, the backups. It could have bad effects...what if the GSOT Rams lost Pace and Warner and Faulk before a playoff game? I think that would hurt them.
However, IMO you can say with pretty serious certainty that wiping out 3/4ths of a vital unit like a DL would make a difference. They wouldn't be playing at the same level that's for sure. They could gut out a win or two I think but across time a seriously depleted defense is not going to hold up.
Let's put it this way. If you were betting on a game, would you take the team that lost most of its DL? Not that it COULDN;T win (Rams could have won that game) but would you bet that way?
