So ... I'm disappointed, sure. But I had no idea going into the game that we'd be missing 3 D linemen. That's nuts. And most of the breakdowns on defense started there.
The Great (I rarely do "greats" on a loss)
1) QB Politics. Fish has enough ammo to switch to Goff now. Not because we lost, but because Keenum's arm talent and decision making were to blame.
The Good2) Run blocking was better. There were lanes and gaps "periodically" and Gurley got hit in the backfield less than in other games. So there's that.
3) Britt is having a strong campaign.
4) Malcolm Brown needs 5 touches a game ... his is really strong, and running like he used to at UT before the injuries.
5) Having EJ Gaines back really matters. He plays bigger than his size.
6) Westbrooks can hold down Hayes' spot ...
7) Better deeper routes for Austin. He needs routes designed for him. His suddenness needs to be used ... his ability to make 3 cuts instead of one needs to be used. And I saw hints of that this game.
8) Not many penalties besides the atrocious back to back delay of games ...
The Bad9) Barnes whiffing on his assignment and getting Case clobbered.
10) Gurley's fumbling ... I know it's going to happen sometimes, but he seems like he's up in his head a bit, and that could get dangerous.
11) Roughing the kicker ... oddly it looked like Josh pulled up at the last second ... and in so doing missed the opportunity to block the kick. Either way it was a bad angle.
12) Wichmann's injury ... even though Brown seemed to do alright.
13) Why did Austin run out of bounds when he caught the bomb in stride? Was he falling over and I just couldn't tell?
14) The fake punt. But not for the reason I think most would be upset ... I'm mad because I think he did it because Tru got hurt and he was impulsive and not focused. The formation the Bills had at the LOS? He should have called the play off or called a Timeout. It was not the fact that he called it, but that he picked the wrong play and then didn't stop it from happening.
The Ugly15) Tru's ankle. It's gonna be a big deal if we don't have him for more than a few games.
16) The combination of maybe 5 of Keenum's worst plays ... throws he should have made, sacks he took that he shouldn't have, and the game killing pick 6.
17) Tyrod running for a first down on 3rd and 19.
College stuff
18) Seems like there is a decent safety crop this year ... couple really high end players that could go top ten and then next tier looks promising.
19) DE is strong too.
20) I have no idea on OCs yet ... I need to see more games for that position ... centers don't really "flash"
21) CB seems solid also.
