QuoteGroundPounder Gacrapolo couldn't hold Goff's jock....Goff's contract should reflect that....in my opinion It won't. 2nd contracts are not based on things like that. It's what is the market this year for 2nd contracts, do we want this guy or not, etc. It has nothing to do with "who is better"or any of that. Well it does a little, but not by much. QuoteRamsFanSince69 Garropolo's deal was 137M over 5 years Wilson gets 140M over 4 years Safe to say that Goff gets something in between. Doesn't work that way. Goff's deal will be a 2nd contract and that's its own market. 2nd contracts go up regularly and steadily and they don't reflect what happens with veteran qb 3rd and 4th contracts.by zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteGroundPounder Wow...and to think Goff has a Super Bowl on his resume and as some others have stated here, he's basically top 5-10 in most if not all QB categories over the past couple of years. Dude is going to get PAID!!! Who is going to be a "cap casualty" in the coming years as a result? He will get a pretty good qb 2nd contract. No one will be a cap casualty. It doesn't necessarily mean anything for Goff. Wilson's deal is not a 2nd contract. 2nd contract numbers are built around other 2nd contracts. The 2nd contract market is its own thing. For lots of reasons, no qb up for a 2nd contract can say give me the same as Russell Wilson's 3rd contract.by zn - RamsFootballFans.com
Quotealyoshamucci At least... Gotta disagree. Teams can work with and win with high-priced qb contracts like that. Wilson's is 18.6% of the cap (roughly speaking) and that's a high one. Highest yet. But their odds of winning without Wilson are not that good. And 18.6% is not crippling. They can win with that. ....by zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuotemaxAllbright said Rams would "sprint to the phone" to trade Goff plus multiple first rounders for Wilson. I highly doubt that. First, teams don't give up that quickly when it comes to high-drafted young qbs. Second, Goff's whole career consists of regrouping and improving and chances are the Rams know that so would not dump picks for someone else Third, under no conditby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
When qbs are in that range it will still be the same percentage of the cap. They say the cap in 2020 will be around 200 M or more. In 2021, it will be higher. I have seen projections for 2021 ranging from 218 M to 221 M. Those are projections so we don't know, but let's play with those numbers. (Though the CBA is up after 2020 so who knows). Quotejemach ok...maybe it's a math thing. You guys don't get it. So you're saying that if necessary, pay the QB 20%+ of the cap? Good luck. It's usually 12-15%. It is rare in the extreme for a qb to get 20+% of the cap and the one example I found, it was a highly front-loaded deal where the percentage goes down in subsequent years. QuoteAlbaNY_Ram I thought that's what I read at the time but I can't find anything that corroborates my memory. What I found says that he had surgery in Jan 2015 to fix a torn labrum in his left shoulder that he originally tore in 2013, and then had surgery to repair the same injury to his right shoulder in Oct 2015. So that's my new story. :-) Thanks for making an effort. But I want youby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteSaguaro Well, I think the limit will be reached when the teams with top QB's are not winning, and the teams with a mediocre QB making a mediocre salary are able to beat them because they have so much other talent. Do we see that happening yet? It is an interesting question. Which team or teams will say no to their franchise QB? Have the Redskins already been that team when thby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteAlbaNY_Ram They didn't just repair the damage, though: they also fixed the structural deficiencies in Saffold's shoulders that caused them to be prone to injuries in the first place. QuoteSunTzu_vs_Camus Everything is cool when yer winning...but I just fear when things get iffy....Rodgers will take command/change plays do whatever he's gotta do to win. QuoteLMU93 Well, I think it's more about simply replacing someone who is one of the upper tier OG in the NFL. That is hard. Oh that's true. But I was just remarking on the change in Saffold's rep. Not that long ago he was the unreliable, always injured guy.by zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteLMU93 the Rams will be hard-pressed to replace a lineman as reliable as Saffold, who has missed just one game due to injury in the past three seasons." So.
