Opponent defenses do not feel the core of their defenses—the front seven—are threatened.
Who would you rather have, Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, or Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson?
Snead and McVay keep drafting running backs that fit with the ‘chunk play’ offensive scheme, but they can’t evolve into selecting guys that run north and south.
And so defenses are cheating because they know what’s coming: an offense that attacks the edges/flat, deep middle and outside the hashes down field.
So, they’re fine giving up on run defense. They’re going to rush heavy and the Rams are going to have nothing to counter that BECAUSE they have no one in the roster who can run like Steven Jackson.
So, nothing will change until McVay falls out of love with his chuck play offense.
He wants to tilt the field into his advantage. Not happening. The defense can cheat and not worry at all about giving up 100+ plus yards on the ground. The Rams don’t have the personnel for that.
