I unplugged the drive from my (brain-freeze)... not a surge protector... big electrical unit that provides power in the event of a power outage... and plugged it in a different outlet on unit.... and drive came back!!! Everything appears to be in tact... for now!
Not taking any chances. Gonna buy a new external drive this week. I've had this one for a good while now (10 years maybe) and perhaps it's going flaky on me. Not willing to take any chances cause the drive in question has stuff I can't replace and I would be absolutely devastated if I lost it.
