A German U Boat attacked a cargo ship just a mile or two off Jax Beach. The U Boat Commander saw that many civilians were on the beach watching. So....After they launched one torpedo he swung the U Boat between the shore and the ship, to make sure no deck gun shells hit the beach. Around 1990, Jax Beach invited the STILL living U Boat Captain for a visit and gave him a key to the City. My Grandfather HAD been out there but came home earlier.
