Call the highway department or stray pets department and they'll remove the kitten.. or, wait until later tonight and go get it.. when I witness a squirrel run over in front of our house (I've told this story several times here) I immediately got on one knee and prayed he was dead and not suffering - especially that I wouldn't have to put him out of his misery.. that is the WORST and I've had to do it with birds..
I immediately went and put the squirrel in a box and buried him.. I couldn't stand to see him laying in the road in front of our house.. After I buried him, there was still a blood stain in the street.. I got out the hose and washed it down. I just couldn't live with seeing it every time I went out front - and that squirrel deserved a respectful end.. He's buried under the tree I planted for Lucie and Torrie, our Beagles.. Barney, our first Beagle is buried there, as well.. Every time Igo out back I say hello to Barney and to "Mr. Squirrel"..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
