He certainly didn't care for the escort horse and I don't the rider either. At one time the escort rider hit him in the face.
Few years back we visited Claiborne Farm where Secretariat is buried along with Bold Ruler and several other race horses. On a tour they brought out several of the horses so you could pet them and pose for photos alongside. However, they kept one horse in his stall be cause he was not "nice"-meaning he might try and kill a visitor. They told the story of one race horse that was so mean the trainers and handlers would draw straws to see who had to take him out of the stall. I can't recall the horses name now but he chased a handler who had to dive under a truck or else be killed. When the horse died all the handlers including trainers, riders, etc. held a party to celebrate.
