It certainly makes it hard to understand. If you're vaxxed and get it, you're fine. But if you're not and you get it, it's seen as a character flaw? Is that about right? If both ways are getting infected, seems like that should reframe the situation more than single out "bad people".
I don't necessarily believe that being unvaccinated is a character flaw or that they're "bad people."
You have to remember, though, that football is the ultimate team sport where the players rely upon each other to be available. I mean...he's fortunate that he tested positive today. What if he'd tested positive on a Friday? Choosing to be unvaccinated could've resulted in him missing two games vs. just one. Infected players who are fully vaccinated are eligible to return after posting two negative tests within 48 hours. That's a big difference and could be the reason why folks look critically at this situation.
My God! What if this happened right before the playoffs? Does it make you a bad person? Of course not. But it might not make you the best teammate either. I'm sure there are more than a couple of players who weren't too keen on taking the vaccine, but did so nevertheless out of an obligation to their fellow players and their organization.
