My oldest grandson's HS Varsity football team played Taft in a playoff game. It was the first time we had ever played Taft. But not just that -
It was the first time I had ever been to Taft in my life, even though it's not that far from my home. My whole life I had wondered about Taft... never having been there. Driving down I-5 in that area I'd often look over to where I knew Taft had to be but you can see nothing from the freeway... not even lights. It was a 'mystery' city for me.
The night of the game I was beside myself with excitement... yes, the game of course... but also... I was going to visit Taft. I discovered why you can't see the lights from I-5... Taft lies just over a small hill from the freeway.
Ahhh, the game you ask. Well, no you didn't... but I'm going to tell you anyway. With 4 seconds to go in the game we threw about a 55yd pass for a TD to come within 1pt of tying. On the extra point kick attempt they we're called for jumping. We made the kick... tied... but we decided to take the penalty. The point came off on the penalty assessment... back to 1pt behind. The offense retook the field. Power run thru the 4 hole.... we win!
Never been back to Taft since that game. One and done, I guess you could say. - JamesJM
