Scene: You and I are on a small cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, no land in sight. The engine blows up: no casualties, but the hull has a gaping hole, is hemorrhaging water, and can't be saved.
Captain: There are 1,000 of us on board and there's a life jacket for everyone. If you don't wear a life jacket you will certainly perish. But if you wear one there's a 90-95% chance that you'll survive until help arrives.
Me: Hand me a life jacket!
