You get wrapped up in Smooth Jazz the way I do come the Holiday Season? And I don't just mean Christmas music, although that as well.
Ya know, there are quite a few new artists continuing the genre.... to my chagrin I have not kept up. I tune in occasionally but not often enough to really follow... and NOTHING like those glory years of the 90's.
Currently my 'access' is Apple Music.. the radio channels, smooth jazz. I believe there are a few genre's now because today smooth jazz has been subdivided into new genres... smooth jazz fusion, acid smooth jazz (no idea what that is), and several others.
I have to confess I have yet to find any new artist to match those glory years, BUT.. no doubt that is my fault for not having kept up.
I have made a wonderful discovery about the 'new artists', however. This won't mean much to you, I know... but for me, WOW.... they are reversing, I believe, that pre-recorded and synthesized drum track a lot of even the 'old timers' were moving onto. REAL drummers again... not always, don't mean that... but many.
And while I'm at it... ever notice, (I'm thinking of your jazz cruises), how smooth jazz was even MORE amazing when LIVE! That always astounded me! I would go see someone, say like Peter White as an example, wanting to hear a song of his, a newer one, and discover that LIVE it was even more amazing than the recorded version.. That happened to me a LOT... with many artists. That anything like your experience? - JamesJM
