Lots of reasons, RAMbeau...

For one, more people are in the water.. over-fishing has caused sharks to move more inland to hunt, global warming, more beach construction causes more fresh water runoff causing more Bull Sharks to come inland since they can live in fresh water, hurricanes, red tides.. all can cause sharks to come closer inland where they contact humans.. Most are exploratory bites that end up with the shark letting go, but if they do enough damage, people can die.. Lots of reasons for it..

Nat Geo is running something like 5 weeks of shark shows - very interesting.. They had a show on the other night about how sharks are impacted by the pharmaceuticals people flush down the toilet that end up in the sharks.. Nothing like a shark on crack.. lol

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
