I actually prefer watching qualifying over the race itself. It's the one time in the weekend when the petal is literally to the metal. . . with no turbulence . . . drafting or back markers.
Think of qualifying as a drag race with corners.
Probably the best and most dramatic is the first weekend of the Indy 500. There's just something special about hearing the engines fluttering as they cross the start finish line.
I watched those highlights this morning. . . awesome.
