Might not be any to discover or at least it might be very, very rare. Everyone envisions a star trek type universe but I remember reading a book several years back called "Rare Earth" that talks about all the tumblers that had to click into place to make earth the planet that it is and it makes a pretty good argument that intelligent life may be very rare.
